Featuring: National Civic Impact Accelerator (UK)

30/10/2023

The National Civic Impact Accelerator (NCIA) is a three-year initiative in the UK aiming to collect evidence, share civic innovations, and equip universities with tools for meaningful civic strategies. Funded by Research England, part of UK Research and Innovation (UKRI), the program will foster collaboration among universities, local government, business groups, and community sectors to drive place-based transformations.

Led by Sheffield Hallam University in partnership with the National Coordinating Centre for Public Engagement (NCCPE), the Institute for Community Studies, West Midlands Regional Development Institute at the University of Birmingham, Queen Mary University of London, and the OECD, the NCIA is supported by the Civic University Network.

Key aspects of the programme include gathering evidence of effective practices, establishing an action learning cohort of universities, supporting implementation through intensive knowledge exchange activities, and operationalizing a Civic Impact Framework to monitor and accelerate civic strategies.

The NCIA initiative aims to enhance civic engagement and accountability among universities, ultimately contributing to positive community outcomes.
